Information systems supporting decision-making processes in enterprises
In enterprises, there are often operational systems that are to ensure their day-to-day operation.
For tactical and strategic decision-making in enterprises, the systems supporting decision-making processes are introduced. These use data from the above-mentioned operational systems.
Selected data is then saved, transformed into information and provided to managers.
The role of the systems that support decision-making processes is to provide better, more complete and true information as a basis for quality decisions that would result in direct and indirect financial benefits.
System supporting decision-making processes designed for US Steel Košice
Our company participated in the design and implementation of the system supporting decision-making processes in the metallurgical environment of US Steel Košice. The core of the system is a data warehouse complemented by a set of functions for transforming data into information and for providing such information within the enterprise’s information infrastructure.
The system was created according to the production areas in question as per material flow, where the basis of each given area was an independent data subset – a datamart containing tables of facts and tables of dimensions.
The established system supporting decision-making processes have helped improve quality management through various advanced statistics above the data by creating numerous overviews, OLAP applications and views and by datamining. The data can be accessed via ODBC.
